In recognition of Earth Day, the NYS Department of Transportation participated in a statewide ‘Trash Blitz’ on Monday, April 22. Many NYSDOT workers volunteered their time collecting and disposing of litter found throughout Starlight Park. Trash Blitz is intended to bring awareness to motorists that littering tarnishes the landscape of the state and threatens both the safety of the roadway and the natural habitat surrounding it.

NYSDOT workers collected garbage to prevent its spread into the Bronx River and the park.
There were many trash bags that were filled to the brim with trash.
