Seven people are recovering from an early Sunday morning fire in Pelham Bay. According to the FDNY, the fire started around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, April 21 on the first floor of a 4-story apartment house at 1580 Edison Avenue. Over 100 firefighters responded to the blaze which took them approximately two hours to get under control. Three civilians with minor injuries, one with life-threatening injuries and three firefighters with non-life threatening injuries, received medical attention. Two dogs perished in the blaze. According to the American Red Cross, approximately 50 people were displaced and others are waiting for the NYC Department of Buildings to inform them if they’ll be able to return. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.

Firefighters entered into the first floor deli after extinguishing the fire.
Firefighters helped a displaced woman onto a stretcher.
Smoke was billowing from the building’s windows.
