A street co-naming ceremony was held in honor of Michele Muccio, a beloved Cardinal Spellman High School cheerleading coach and community volunteer, on Saturday, April 6 at St. Theresa and Edison avenues. The intersection was renamed ‘Michele Muccio Way’ in her memory. Muccio, a Pelham Bay mother of three, died when another vehicle cut her off as she was travelling southbound on I-95 near Co-op City and lost control of her SUV in March 2018.

Michele’s friend Victor DiPierro and Danni Muccio displayed one of the ceremonial street signs.
(l-r) Christie West, Erica Lepore and Javine Baez showed their support for Michele and her family.
Michele’s brother Chris Giaquinta and Dina Danna attended the heartfelt ceremony.
(l-r) Michael DiBenedetto; State Committeeman Thomas Messina; Councilman Mark Gjonaj, Joseph Giaquinta, Michele’s father and Victor DiPierro at Michele Muccio Way.
