Police shot and killed a knife-wielding man who confronted them on Monday, January 29 around 7:45 p.m. at Prospect Avenue. According to police, they responded to a call of a person stabbed by a man at 2131 Prospect Avenue, but found no one injured when they arrived. They then observed Michael Hansford, 52, standing outside with a knife in his hand. Police repeatedly told Hansford to drop his weapon, but instead turned toward them prompting them to fire at him. Hansford was taken to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police are still investigating this case.
