A medical care provider with roots in the community going back more than three decades has changed his affiliation to a new hospital and medical system.

Eastern Vascular Associates, which has been in the Throggs Neck and Pelham Bay communities since 1984, is now aligned with Columbia Presbyterian.

The medical group, formerly in the Montefiore network, handles many different types of vascular conditions and diseases – those related to veins and arteries – and will continue as it always has to provide medical care from its facility at 3219 E. Tremont Avenue, where it performs minor surgeries onsite.

More intensive vascular surgeries are performed at New York Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, NY. Previously, these surgeries had been done at Montefiore.

“We enjoyed working at Montefiore for the past 15 years,” said Dr. Francis Porreca, founder of Eastern Vascular Associates. “Having the opportunity to be affiliated with Columbia Presbyterian is very exciting for us.”

Lawrence Hospital was upgraded recently with new operating rooms and other facilities, said Porreca.

Porreca said that the move to NYP/Columbia, is an opportunity for his group to “provide our patients with the best quality care.”

“Columbia has made a significant investment at Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville to bring state- of-the-art care to our patients in the Bronx as well as Westchester county and Connecticut,” said Porreca. “We are excited about joining the vascular division of a world-class institution.”

Porreca’s been in the east Bronx since opening the practice in 1984, and was first located in the Lauren Professional Building in Throggs Neck before moving the office to its present location about 15 years ago, he said.

The doctor said that he enjoys his community practice because he feels the patients listen to what he tells them, something that is very important because vascular care is something that usually lasts for an extended period of time.

“We enjoy taking care of the patients in our communities as they generally listen and appreciate what we can do for them,” he said.

He, his partner Dr. Michael Vitti and the whole team are committed to serving the people of the community that has been Eastern Vascular Associates’ home for years, said Porreca.

“We manage all aspects of vascular disease including peripheral vascular, cerebrovascular and aneurysm disease as well as venous disease and renal access for dialysis,” he said. “We have a state-of-the-art vein center as part of our practice in Throggs Neck.”
