An arrest was recently made in connection to last month’s burglary pattern in Throggs Neck.
On Wednesday, February 8, 23-year white male, Kiran McClain, was arrested after being connected to at least three burglaries in Throggs Neck in three weeks, along with other crime-related incidents over the past two years.
The first of the three incidents occurred just before 1 a.m. on Friday, January 13, when McClain allegedly attempted to enter Euro Products, located at 3200 Schley Avenue.
According to a police report, McClain used bolt cutters in an attempt to gain entry into the store’s basement through the cellar door. He eventually fled the scene after an unsuccessful attempt.
The second incident took place less than a half an hour later, when McClain allegedly broke into the Silver Beach Deli, 4 Plaza Place. After breaking the side window, he entered the commercial establishment and removed $1,100 in cash before leaving the scene, police claim.
A surveillance video, which was released by the NYPD, shows McClain taking money from the deli that Friday morning.
Less than three weeks later, on Monday, January 30, McClain entered the Bronxonia Yacht Club at 518 Ellsworth Avenue, also during the early hours of the morning. After alllegedly breaking through a window, he removed the register, which contained approximately $50.
McClain was arrested just over a week later on the Throgs Neck Expressway service road. He was charged with criminal intent involving damaged property, grand larceny involving criminal possession of stolen property over $1,000 and petty larceny involving criminal possession of stolen property..
“It is clear that this individual was very good at what he did – but it was bound to catch up with him sooner or later,” said Bob Bider, the 45th Precinct Community Council president, who said that McClain and his actions were brought up at a recent community council meeting.
According to Euro Products’ owners, McClain’s mom reached out to the establishment two years ago, pleading with them to give her son an employment opportunity. Kiran was employed at the business for only three days, when its surveillance camera caught him in suspicious behavior. The video was shared with 45th Precinct detectives the following morning.
Following the incident, Kiran was relieved of his duties but the stores’ owners did not file a police report – as Euro Products did not want to ruin the young man’s future because of one incident.
Multiple sources confirm that these occurances have been taking place in the area sporadically over the last two years.
After this most recent incident at Euro Products, the Bronx DA’s office issued a 3-year order of protection to keep McClain away from the establishment..
