Monroe College Celebrates Female Empowerment

In honor of Women’s History Month, Monroe College hosted its fifth annual Female Empowerment Event on Thursday, March 23 to help local high schools motivate and inspire students in making sound education, career and lifestyle decisions.

Accomplished journalist and NY1 News anchor Cheryl Wills, Mount Vernon City Court judge Nichelle Johnson and Monroe College staff member Tanya Dean shared their personal challenges and triumphs whule encouraging all to stay focused and motivated toward accomplishing their dreams.

Wills signed copies of her new book, ‘Emancipated: My Family’s Fight for Freedom’ for attendees and brought with her one of the 20 surviving original-signed copies of the Emancipation Proclamation to campus.

She is one of five private individuals to possess a copy of the historical document.
