The NYPD is asking for the public’s assistance locating an individual who killed an elderly Wakefield man in a hit-and-run incident the morning of Thursday, November 17.
Orlando Savino, 72, of Furman Avenue was struck by a sedan at around 10:30 a.m. while crossing Nereid Avenue at the intersection of Richardson Avenue.
Savino suffered injuries to the torso area and was found unconscious and unresponsive by responding police.
He was was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for treatment but was later pronounced dead.
No memorial or funeral arrangements were made available at press time.
Security video obtained at the scene by police show the operator of a black Ford Fusion travelling southbound on Richardson Avenue and then turn left onto eastbound Nereid Avenue, when he struck Savino.
The driver fled the scene eastbound on Nereid Avenue, police said.
The four-door vehicle police are searching for had no front license plate and a paper temporary plate affixed to the rear license plate holder, according to police.
Following the incident the NYPD placed a flashing sign at the busy intersection asking for help locating the driver involved in the fatal accident.
