Montefiore and the Hebrew Home at Riverdale have partnered to bring better care to their patients.
Through the partnership, Montefiore doctors will provide geriatrics, physical medicine and rehabilitation care to patients staying at the Hebrew Home.
“At a time of great change in healthcare, we are delighted to build on our clinical collaborations with the Hebrew Home to enhance care for patients in environments outside of the hospital,” said Steven M. Safyer, M.D., president of Montefiore Medicine. “Together our goal is to increase the number of customized programs, building on Montefiore and Einstein’s advanced care and knowledge. This will enhance patient well-being and put them on a road to optimal rehabilitation, once they exit hospital doors.”
A part of the care Montefiore and the Hebrew Home will bring to patients is a new state-of-the-art 45-bed wing.
Some of the innovative technology the Hebrew Home uses includes Early Sense technology.
The technology allows the doctors and staff to wirelessly monitor and detect early on in if there is any patient deterioration.
According to a Hebrew Home spokesperson, “Studies have linked the technology with decreased hospitalization and an increase in quality of care.”
The Riverdale facility has also put a lot of resources into making sure their patients’ minds are stimulated.
For example, there are two sports exhibits – one featuring the Yankees and one featuring the Giants – which include both visual and audio histories of both teams.
In addition, the halls are furnished with artwork from various time periods.
Safyer stressed one of the benefits of places like the Hebrew Home are connected to one of the dangers hospitals present.
He acknowledged it was peculiar for a hospital to associate danger with a hospital, however he said they can become hazardous places if people stay there longer than required.
Therefore, it is good for patients to have a place to go like the Hebrew Home.
Safyer and Daniel Reingold, president of RiverSpring Health – the parent organization of the Hebrew Home – have known each other for some time and had discussed a possible partnership for the past three years.
“Today is an exciting and historical day for the Hebrew Home at Riverdale and Montefiore Health System,” said Reingold.
