Recently, Bronx Community Board 10 completed one phase of the yearly budget consultations with City agencies. At the Budget Consultations with the New York City Police Department, the Board learned that there would be an additional five officers assigned to Transit District 12, which oversees security for the IRT #6 Train. The community board had advocated for the assignment of additional officers to this line, so this news is particularly welcome. The board also learned that its advocacy for internal improvements to the 45th Precinct has resulted in several public areas being painted and cleaned.
In response to several negative interactions between students from Herbert H. Lehman High School and other students traveling to the transportation hub at Westchester Square, the board’s Youth Services Committee recently met and determined that there should be a summit with the student governments from the schools, the NYPD, the Department of Education, local civic groups and merchants, to establish a protocol whereby the students can safely travel from school to the transit hub safely, and those in the community can live free from negative incidents. The board has contacted the relevant agencies of government to facilitate this summit.
An organization known as the Community Action for Human Services has informed the board that it intends to establish a group home for 3 to 8 developmentally disabled individuals at 3407 Bruckner Boulevard, at Waterbury Estates. The board will be conducting a public meeting on this subject on Tuesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the auditorium of the Greek American Institute, located at 3573 Bruckner Boulevard.
