Community Board 10

District Manager

Recently, Bronx Community Board 10 completed one phase of the yearly budget consultations with City agencies.  At the Budget Consultations with the New York City Police Department, the Board learned that there would be an additional five officers assigned to Transit District 12, which oversees security for the IRT #6 Train.  The community board had advocated for the assignment of additional officers to this line, so this news is particularly welcome. The board also learned that its advocacy for internal improvements to the 45th Precinct has resulted in several public areas being painted and cleaned.

In response to several negative interactions between students from Herbert H. Lehman High School and other students traveling to the transportation hub at Westchester Square, the board’s Youth Services Committee recently met and determined that there should be a summit with the student governments from the schools, the NYPD, the Department of Education, local civic groups and merchants, to establish a protocol whereby the students can safely travel from school to the transit hub safely, and those in the community can live free from negative incidents. The board has contacted the relevant agencies of government to facilitate this summit.

An organization known as the Community Action for Human Services has informed the board that it intends to establish a group home for 3 to 8 developmentally disabled individuals at 3407 Bruckner Boulevard, at Waterbury Estates.  The board will be conducting a public meeting on this subject on Tuesday, October 7, at 7:30 p.m. at the auditorium of the Greek American Institute, located at 3573 Bruckner Boulevard.

Recently, Jacobi Medical Center celebrated the opening of its new Ambulatory Care Pavilion. The new structure features a soaring glass canopied space that incorporates sculpture art and historic elements, to create a state of the art medical facility that is not merely a destination for those in need of the healing arts, but an architectural gem that should be viewed by all. The pavilion is a proud statement by the city government that it is committed to providing the residents of the northeast Bronx with quality healthcare in a modern and impressive setting.

Metro-North Commuter Railroad, a constituent agency of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, will be conducting a job fair at Grand Central Station on Thursday, October 30, between the hours of 1 to 6 p.m. Metro-North is one of best operated commuter railroads in the country, and it is offering jobs in a variety of positions.  These positions provide competitive salaries, job growth and benefits.
