BCC Foundation to host gala

The Bronx Community College Foundation will hold its annual Gala Awards Dinner, Celebrating BCC: Progress and Promise, at the New York Botanical Garden, 2900 Southern Boulevard, on Thursday, April 2. Those to be honored as part of the evening program include Jay Hershenson, senior vice chancellor for university relations and secretary of the Board of Trustees of The City University of New York; BCC graduate M. Monica Sweeney, M.D., assistant commissioner for the Bureau of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene; and Alice P. Fuller, dean of faculty and academic affairs at Bronx Community College. Read more…

BALAM Dance to perform at Lehman

BALAM Dance Theatre will visit Lehman College Mar. 30 to present Defining Diversity, its 30th anniversary performance, featuring a traditional Balinese, Spanish and Afro-Caribbean repertoire. Sponsored by the college’s Freshman Year Initiative Program, the free performance will take place from 11 am to 12:40 pm in the Lovinger Theatre. The public is invited to attend. Read more…

Artist Tax Day

In cooperation with the Bronx Council on the Arts (BCA), ARIVA, a non-profit organization focused on financial literacy and tax preparation services, has designated Friday, April 3, as Artist Tax Day. On this day, ARIVA will demonstrate its commitment to artists in the Bronx by offering free tax preparation to artists who live in the borough. ARIVA volunteers specially trained in the tax issues pertinent to artists will be available to prepare tax returns for qualified individuals. There is no charge for this service, but appointments must be made in advance. April 3 office hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Read more…
