City Island Nautical Museum goes back into commission

Organ showcase

Showcasing one of the oldest working organs in the country, Dr. Jan Piett Knijff performs classical music and holiday favorites, in a special concert, at St. Paul’s Church National Historic Site, in Mt. Vernon, NY, on Sun., December 21, at 2 pm. Dr. Knijff, the St. Paul’s concert organist in residence, will be accompanied by soprano in the recital on the 1833 Erben pipe organ. At 1 pm, storyteller and author Stephanie Mita shares seasonal tales and legends. Admission is free and refreshments are provided. Read more…

School choir performs during stamp release

The U.S. Postal Service issued the 42-cent Christmas and holiday stamps at the 2008 Fall Postage Stamp Mega Event at Madison Square in late October and Preston High School’s Gospel Choir provided music for the celebration. After being asked to perform last year by Dr. Katherine Tobin, a member of the post office’s governing board and former Preston Board member, the choir was invited back and sang both traditional holiday music and gospel hymns. Dr. Peggy Morton is the choir’s faculty advisor and Senior Ebony Pulley serves as the group director. Read more…
