The Bharati Foundation, along with La Maravillas Del Exodo, Inc., the Young Caribbean Professionals of Westchester and the Bronx chapter of the National Latino Peace Office Association hosted the third annual ‘Five Boroughs Community Leadership Awards and Fundraiser’ at Carifesta Restaurant. Leading individuals in various career fields were honored for their service, dedication and commitment to connecting resources to those in need. Blink Fitness held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of their Claremont location at 1421 Webster Avenue on Friday, January 3. The gym facility, which is the brand’s 12th gym in the Bronx, spans more than 14,000 square feet. Three-floor blaze on Seddon Street, no injuries

Multiple families were displaced by a fire that caused extensive damage to two neighboring apartment buildings on Seddon Street on Monday, December 30. About 120 firefighters responded to the scene to battle the fire, which started at 1753 Seddon Street before spreading to 1751 Seddon Street. The fire affected all three floors of both buildings before the FDNY was able to get it under control. There were no injuries to residents or firefighters as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated by fire marshalls. The Red Cross is assisting eight adults and two children with temporary housing and financial assistance. Photo by Edwin Soto Read more…

First homicide of 2020 results in death of 29-year old

A 29-year old man was discovered unconscious and unresponsive with gunshot wounds to the head and neck at 1609 E. 174th Street within the Bronx River Houses on New Year’s Day at around 10:30 a.m. The individual, later identified as Raheem Jennings, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Police say that Jennings’ girlfriend was taken into custody for questioning following the shooting. This is reportedly the first homicide of the year. Read more…
