‘Savor the Bronx’ Restaurant Week kicked off by BP Diaz

Bon Appetit! And more importantly, savor the Bronx!

The 4th Annual ‘Savor the Bronx’ Restaurant Week was kicked off by Borough President Ruben Diaz, Jr. at the Bronx Beer Hall, 2321 Hughes Avenue, in the Arthur Avenue Retail Market on Monday, November 3.

‘Savor the Bronx’ Restaurant Week, produced by the Bronx Tourism Council and co-hosted by the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation, gives those in attendance an opportunity to explore and learn more about the different cuisines that the Bronx has to offer, from seafood on City Island to Spanish cuisine in University Heights.

The 12-day event, which will conclude on Wednesday, November 14, connects attendees with the top eating and beer establishments in the Bronx, while offering special values and discounts.

“Savor the Bronx Restaurant Week is our way of featuring some of the borough’s best eateries,” said Olga Luz Tirado, executive director of the Bronx Tourism Council. “We invite visitors to sample and enjoy the diverse flavors that our borough has.”

At the press conference on Monday, November 3, the Bronx Beer Hall also highlighted its new menu and provided samples from the Gun Hill Brewery and Jonas Bronck’s Beer Company.

The Gun Hill Brewery, located on 3227 Laconia Avenue and who recently won a gold medal at the 2014 Great American Beer Festival, sampled their Void of Light Stout. Jonas Bronck’s Beer Company, which is retailed in locations in four out of the city’s five boroughs as well as Long Island and Westchester, sampled their classic New York Chocolate Egg Cream Stout for the event.

The event also included Chef King Phojanakong and Small Axe Peppers provided samples of a product that is made using peppers grown in community gardens across the borough, the brand new Bronx Hot Sauce.

“We have so many great flavors in our borough, and I hope that everyone – visitors and locals alike – will take advantage of this promotion and try something new,” said Diaz.

“Our borough has an amazing food culture, and ‘Savor the Bronx’ is a great way to explore our epicurean delights.”

The Arthur Avenue Retail Market, known primarily for its Italian delis and restaurants, proved that even in a location highly influenced by Italian cuisine and culture, the enormous variety of food cultures of the Bronx could be represented and showcased in that environment.

Lucky for food connoisseurs, Savor the Bronx Restaurant Week is taking place until Wednesday, November 14, so for anybody that wants an opportunity to enjoy the many food cultures from the entire borough, make your way to the Arthur Avenue Retail Market. You will have a lot on your plate!
