MJHS invest $2.5 in new hospice

Bronx Times

As the number of New Yorkers needing end-of-life care increases, MJHS Hospice has decided to invest in their comfort.

The hospice recently invested $2.5 million to build the Muriel and Harold Block Residence on the grounds of Jewish Home Lifecare on West Kingsbridge Road.

The new facility includes 16 private homelike suites, designed specifically for the needs of hospice patients and their families.

The block residence is ideal for patients whose caregivers can no longer keep up with their needs, or who require around-the-clock care from a team of hospice professionals.

At MJHS Hospices, each patient will have a medical care team with a physician and nurse who are board-certified in hospice and palliative care.

Each patient will receive emotional, spiritual and psychological support to help them understand the process they are going through.

“While providing hospice services to patients in the comfort of home is often preferred, there are times when expert medical care is needed around the clock,” said Barbara Hiney, executive vice president of MJHS Hospice. “The Muriel and Harold Block Residence of MJHS Hospice will be a place where phenomenal caring will happen every minute, every day. It will also be a place where our patients and their loved ones find comfort in knowing that we uphold, honor and celebrate the traditions that matter most.”

The hospice will also provide care services to patients who live at home, in assisted living communities, nursing homes, and hospitals.

The Muriel and Harold Block Residence of MJHS Hospice is being funded by the Sixteen Lights Capital Campaign of MJHS Foundation, which carries on a tradition of philanthropy first started by the Brooklyn Ladies in 1907.
