The new sound system was literally music to their ears.

Students at P.S. 105 danced and swayed to the music coming from it at dedication ceremonies in the school auditorium, where new lighting and video equipment was also dediccated, thanks to a $100,000 grant Councilman Jimmy Vacca secured through the City Council.

The upgrades also included new stage lights, new side lights and a new projector.

Principal Christopher Eustace said the upgrades were much needed, as he expressed his thanks to the councilman.

“We have a lot of art, dance and theatre performances that take place here,” Eustace said. “With our old system, people in the back of the auditorium wouldn’t be able to hear what was going on, so this really enhances the children’s experience.”

After an introduction by Eustace, students from P.S. 105’s theater group - Roy Hidalgo, Sabier Melendez, James Jansen and Marques Taylor - performed a song and dance number to “Jolly Holiday” to showcase the new sound system.

“There’s a lot of things that go into having a successful school, and we all know that money is a big issue,” Eustace said.

“In order for us to have a lot of the extra special things we have here at P.S. 105, we need money, and we have been lucky enough to have someone to provide us with these special extras.”

“I represent you at City Hall, and part of my job is to try to bring back to our neighborhood some of the resources we need,” he told the students.

“An auditorium is a focal point, a gathering place, and when we gather we want to enjoy each others company and see how our fellow classmates perform. So how can we do that? We have to have the equipment.”
