Well, the long winter is winding down.Hopefully we won’t get another few feet of snow before it does! But no time to waste fretting about winter anymore—it’s spring ahead!Daylight saving time is here this weekend. That’s a start. And in another week it’s really the start of spring. So dust off those projects you’ve been meaning to do because before you know it the nice weather will finally be here.

This Saturday night, March 13, is MPCA’s annual dinner dance at Marina del Rey.Put on your dancin’ shoes and come to the Marina for great food, good friends, live entertainment and music. There’s still time to snag a ticket at $85 per person.

Join the celebration as the association honors activist octogenarian Joseph Garofalo, World War II United States Marine Corps veteran who has championed the cause for a permanent Veterans Museum.

And MPCA’s journal this year is dedicated in remembrance of some very special members of the association who passed away:Louis Aluisa, Dominick Amelio, Frank Argentieri, Raymond Cook, Dominick DeProspo, Nino Gatto, Dominick Gregory, Fred Haglen, Rudy Macina, Frank Maddaloni, Sr., Rocky Miano, Al Modaferri, Jim Potter, Robert Salerno, Georgina Soccodato, John Soccodato.

Though they are gone, they will always be remembered for their individual dedication, hard work, accomplishments, friendship and personalities that strengthened and furthered the mission of the association. They are truly missed!

Over the past month or so there’s been a severe spike in the number of graffiti tags on Morris Park Avenue and Williamsbridge Road including the defacing of St. Francis Xavier Church rectory. Many thanks to Senator Jeff Klein for having the rectory and affected storefronts restored so quickly. What would our neighborhood look like without this graffiti removal program?

Just one more thing...If you are the victim of a crime, make a police report and seek victims’ assistance. And definitely make a police report if your car is vandalized, broken into and/or robbed.Don’t just brush it off.Making the report aids the 49th Precinct in establishing criminal trends in the community and deploying manpower more effectively.

Enjoy the coming of spring!Have a great week.
