P.S. 83 third graders kickoff Yankee tours

On Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m., Yankee Stadium officially opened the stadium tours for the 2009 season. Class 3-325 from P.S. 83, located on 1840 Bogart Avenue, were the first students to tour the new stadium.

These students exemplify the qualities of true champions. They are hardworking, compassionate and always strive to be the best they can be in all they do. This special trip was offered as a reward for their great work ethic and positive character traits.

The students arrived at school extra early on the morning of May 4 in order to make it to the stadium by 9 a.m. They were accompanied by the principal of P.S. 83, Benjamin Soccodato, their teacher, Rosemary Mercora and P.S. 83 Literacy Coach, Linda Collins.

When the class of approximately 30 students arrived at Yankee Stadium, they were greeted by the Yankee Stadium tour directors, Tony Morante and Frank Milanesi, who congratulated the P.S. 83 students on being the first class to tour the new Yankee Stadium. The students had the thrill of their lives touring the magnificent stadium, visiting the Yankee Museum, Monument Park and the Yankee Dugout. The third graders were amazed by what they saw and loved sitting in the Yankee dugout. The students commented on how special they felt to be the first class to tour Yankee Stadium during this inaugural season of the new ballpark. They even joked how they will be able to tell their grandchildren that they were the first class to tour Yankee Stadium. It was a day that these third graders from P.S. 83 will never forget.
