Benedetto organizes coat drive

Assemblyman Michael R. Benedetto is organizing a coat drive for the needy in our local area.

“For some in our community the winter can be a very scary time, especially if you do not have a warm coat,” said Assemblyman Benedetto.

This winter will be especially difficult, with the economic down-turn effecting the most vulnerable in our community.

“It is a very sad fact, but thousands of people in our City lack a warm coat for the winter. While many are homeless, others are working people who often have to choose between paying bills and buying a winter coat,” added Benedetto.

While the assemblyman is working hard in the Assembly to make sure that our state is addressing the pressing problems facing our community, he also believes that we as individuals can make a difference for our fellow citizens.

“Earlier this year I was heartened with the overwhelming response to our school supplies drive, and I believe that our community will once again rise to the occasion to help those in need,” concluded Benedetto.

All coats brought to the assemblyman’s office will be donated to local charitable organizations for distribution. Benedetto encourages people to donate coats for all ages.

To donate a coat or to obtain further information call the Assemblyman Michael Benedetto’s district offices at East Tremont Avenue (718-892-2235) or Co-op City (at 718-320-2220).
