In many ways the business district is the lifeblood of our community.  If our business district is healthy and thriving, people from our community as well as surrounding communities will be drawn here.  Of course, this will also make our residential area a more sought after place.  There are many aspects to a healthy business district.  One very important aspect is visual appeal.  Another is parking but we’ll save that for another column!

WLCA wants to help our business owners improve their curbside appearance so we have instituted a business district beautification program.  Beginning with Crosby Avenue and slowly moving to other commercial areas we hope to install street trees, place flower pots overflowing with greenery in front of businesses and generally work shoulder to shoulder with our business owners to make our business districts the talk of the town.

On Monday, October 13, WLCA excitedly placed container gardens storeside in front of eight businesses.  The response was overwhelming!  So many people stopped us to say how beautiful the gardens were and how happy they were to have them on Crosby Avenue.  There were smiles everywhere!  Business owners also ery, colorful flowers and new trees that you will be drawn to shop in the area and tell your friends about how great the Avenue is looking!

If you are a business owner who is committed to caring for a container garden or tree and wants the details of this program, please call me at (718) 792-6385.
