Thursday, April 25, 34 students at St. Catharine Academy were inducted into the Mercy Chapter of the National Honor Society. To be selected for this honor, students must exhibit characteristics of strong leadership, fine character, high scholarship and service to their school and community. In welcoming the candidates and their guests to the ceremony, Sr. Ann M. Welch, principal, spoke to the young women who represent the finest at St. Catharine Academy.

The National Honor Society has been very active in the community this school year. In October, many students participated in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at Orchard Beach. They raised over $1600. Students also volunteered in nursing homes, day-care centers, after school programs and hospitals. In February, students brought hand-made gifts to the residents of Providence Rest Nursing Home.  National Honor Society students planned and carried out activities for “Earth Week” in April and raised $685 which was donated to the World Wildlife Fund and the National Park Foundation. Moderators, Michael Mastronardi and Dolores Piergentile were very proud of these pro-active, civic minded members.
